Citation Dismissals
Some violations MAY be dismissed or reduced if they meet certain criteria. The criteria is listed below. Some violations require that you pay the State and Municipal Court a dismissal fee. If your violation is not listed below then it cannot be dismissed.
Please return your signed citation, along with the required documentation and payment to the Municipal Court by your appearance date (10 business days from the date of violation).
Fail to Display Driver's License - Present a copy of your valid driver's license. Your driver's license must be valid on the date of the violation. The Municipal Court shall dismiss the citation with a $20.00 fee.
No Valid Driver's License - If you did not have a valid driver's license at the time of the citation, contact the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to obtain one. Contact the Municipal Court on or before your court appearance date and advise the Municipal Court of the status of your driver's license for a possible reduction in fine and/or dismissal.
Expired Driver's License - You must renew your driver's license within 10 business days of the date of the citation (or request an extension) and present a copy to the Municipal Court. The Municipal Court MUST dismiss with a $20 fee.
Fail to Report Change of Address - You must renew your driver's license address within 10 business days after the date of the citation. The Municipal Court MUST dismiss with a $20 fee.
Fail to Display Insurance - Present a copy of liability insurance that shows coverage (either on the vehicle or the driver) on the date of the citation. Proof of insurance will be verified for complete citation dismissal.
Expired Vehicle Inspection - You must renew the vehicle registration within 10 business days of the citation and present the receipt to the Municipal Court. The Municipal Court MUST dismiss with a $10 fee. The Municipal Court does NOT dismiss the citation if the registration was expired for more than 60 days.
Operate Vehicle with Defective Required Equipment or in Unsafe Condition - Must be remedied by the initial appearance date and provide proof of repair. The Municipal Court MUST dismiss with a $10 feet. This does not apply to CDL vehicles.
