Boards & Commissions

Serving on Boards and Commissions

The Marble Falls City Council appoints citizens to serve on advisory boards and commissions.  Citizen involvement is important to setting the direction for Marble Falls' future.  

The appointed citizens serve without pay on the City boards and commissions.  Members must take an oath of office and serve in the interest of public service to the Marble Falls community.  In most cases board members may serve no more than two consecutive terms on a board and may serve on only one City board at a time.  Each board or commission is responsible for electing its own chairperson and other officers.

Here is a brief overview of the duties for each board or commission:

Construction Advisory and Appeals Board
The board is composed of nine (9) members (one architect, one commercial building contractor, one residential building contractor, one master electrical contractor, one HVAC contractor, one master plumber, 2 citizens, and one commercial business owner each serving a two-year term. Construction Advisory and Appeals Board has no authority to waive the requirements of the International Building Code, however the board shall submit to the City Council such recommendations for improvement and revision of codes as it may from time to time deem necessary. A building owner may appeal a decision of the City's Building Official to the board where the decision concerns the building, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, energy and fire prevention codes. The board meets once a month.

Ethics Review Commission
The Ethics Review Commission has jurisdiction over ethics complaints involving city officials and city employees. The commission is composed of five (5) members each serving a two-year term. The commission has the authority to review and investigate complaints filed in accordance with the ethics review policy. The commission meets as necessary. Click here to view by-laws.

Impact Fee Advisory Committee
The Impact Fee Advisory Committee is appointed by the City Council.  It is comprised of the existing appointees of the Planning and Zoning Commission, augmented by an additional representative of the extra-territorial jurisdiction.  The committee’s role is to work with the consultant and provide recommendations regarding adoption of the impact fees to the City Council. The committee meets as necessary.

Marble Falls Economic Development Corporation (MFEDC)
The Marble Falls Economic Development Corporation is a 4B nonprofit corporation.  The purpose of the corporation is to promote, assist, and enhance economic development.  The board is made up of seven directors, three of whom are members of the City Council and four of whom are residents of the City.  The board meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 12:00 noon at City Hall. Parks and Recreation Commission (P&R)
The Parks and Recreation Department interfaces with the Parks and Recreation Commission; which serves in an advisory capacity and makes recommendations to the City Council concerning the acquisition, maintenance, operation and use of parks and open spaces within the city. The Commission is composed of seven members serving staggered two-year terms. The Commission meets on the first Monday of the month at 12:00 noon at City Hall.  Click here to view by-laws.

Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z)
The Planning and Zoning Commission is composed of seven members serving staggered two-year terms.  The Planning and Zoning Commission makes recommendations to the City Council on rezoning requests, platting and subdivision of land within and in the ETJ of the City, changes to the Subdivision Regulations, requests for variances, special exceptions, and changes and appeals to the Land Use Regulations. The commission also makes recommendations to the City Council on matters relating to the Comprehensive Plan and changes thereto.  The commission meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6:15 pm at City Hall. Qualification for Appointment:

The City of Marble Falls' Home Rule Charter establishes certain qualifications that must be met by all members of city boards, commissions and committees:

  • A registered voter of the City.

  • Shall not be in arrears in the payment of any taxes or liability due the City.
